In the summer of 2023, Susan was invited to design China’s first “Boundless Girls” themed eco-friendly playground for Nike. This playground, named "Butterfly of Love," was created by recycling old trainers, ultilising Nike Grind technology to transform them into raw materials for the construction. By doing so, it introduced and strengthen the sustainability awareness in the young generation. Susan has then incorperated nature elements, such as sunlight, rainbows, and lucky butterfly into the design to further convey the concept of sustainability and love for nature.
The “Butterfly of Love” playground, consists of an abstract butterfly design which also projects the shape of a heart with its wings, sysmbolize the beginning of love. With that, Susan hopes to create a loving space for the youth, a blessing for each of them to chase after their dream, creativity, the love for one another, and nature.
“Butterfly of Love” playground is situated at Gu Cheng Elementary School in Miao Jie Town, Weishan County, Dali, Yunnan was built in the course of three months. On August 13, 2023, Susan, along with Chinese swimmer Liu Xiang and several other influential women, visited the school. They were joined by a group of passionate university student volunteers participating in the “Boundless Girls” summer camp and representatives from Gu Cheng Elementary School to unveil the Nike Grind eco-friendly playground.
